Another Valentine’s Day has come and gone and everybody knows that this is the annual celebration of “Love”, but in this crazy topsy-turvy world I don’t think many people know what real love is. Love is more than a feeling or emotion. Love is an action. Love is a commitment. In modern society infatuation and lust are often substituted for love, but those are nothing more than fleeting feelings and temporary emotions…here today and gone tomorrow. To find out what real love is, the best source is the creator of love…God:
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
These are some high ideals, and you may think they are unachievable. I know it’s a struggle. Having been married for almost 20 years now, I know how difficult it is, and I fail daily to show true love to my wife, but that is my goal. If you’ve been looking for love in all the wrong places, maybe its because you’ve just been using the wrong definition of love. See how different things can be when you find someone who shares your values and you both try to love like God loves, then maybe you’ll experience real love for the first time.
